11-year-old dies by suicide after ICE threats from bullies

Tragedy struck in Texas when 11-year-old Jocelynn Rojo Carranza died by suicide on February 8, following relentless bullying at school. Her mother, Marbella Carranza, reported that classmates mocked her family’s immigration status and threatened to call ICE, leaving Jocelynn feeling isolated and hopeless.

The Gainesville Independent School District stated they respond swiftly to bullying reports but did not confirm specifics about the incident.

Jocelynn, a passionate dancer who loved spending time with her family, passed away five days after being found unresponsive at home. She was laid to rest with a mariachi band playing at her service, where her family mourned her loss.

Her death has sparked calls for greater awareness of bullying and its serious impact. The Boys & Girls Club of Cooke County reminded everyone to “always be kind” as we never know what someone is going through.

If you or someone you know is considering suicide, contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 or texting “STRENGTH” to 741741.
