13-year-old boy stops kidnapper with a $3 toy his mom bought for him

Thirteen-year-old Owen Burns from Alpena Township, Michigan, was about to play “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” when he heard his 8-year-old sister screaming outside. Looking out the window, he saw a man dragging her toward the woods.

Acting quickly, Owen grabbed his \$3 slingshot and fired a marble and a rock—hitting the kidnapper between the eyes and on the chest. The man, a 17-year-old, fled. Thanks to Owen’s bravery, his sister was saved. The siblings called their mom, who alerted police. Michigan State Police later arrested the suspect, who will be charged as an adult.

Owen saved his sister’s life or from something seriously bad,” said Lt. John Grimshaw, calling the act “extraordinary.” Police confirmed the suspect had injuries consistent with the slingshot attack.

Initially, Owen’s mother couldn’t believe his story. “Stuff in the movies can and do happen in real life,” Owen told her.

Owen’s heroic actions earned widespread praise.
