Chicago Residents Alarmed As 18 Bodies Found In Waterways Amid Serial Killer Speculations

Jeff Jones, 38, flew to Austin for a bachelor party but woke up two weeks later in a hospital with severe injuries after falling 25 feet from a bridge. Found with Rohypnol in his system, he believes he was drugged and pushed. His case, along with dozens of similar incidents, sparked fears of a serial killer dubbed the “Rainey Street Ripper.”

Since 2022, 38 bodies—mostly men aged 30 to 49—have been pulled from Lady Bird Lake, near Austin’s party district. Authorities, however, deny the existence of a serial killer, attributing the deaths to partying, accidents, and overdoses. Six deaths remain unexplained, but only one has been ruled a homicide.

The latest case involves a 17-year-old who drowned after stepping off an underwater ledge while kayaking. Police say there’s no foul play but have increased safety measures around the lake, including lights, fences, and ambulance patrols.

Despite online speculation, experts urge the public to trust police investigations, stating no evidence supports the serial killer theory.
