Bloke has ‘record-breaking’ kidneys removed after they start crushing his organs

Warren Higgs, 54, from England, had the “heaviest kidneys in the world” removed in a successful surgery at Churchill Hospital, Oxford. Living with Polycystic Kidney Disease, his kidneys, weighing a total of 74 pounds, were crushing his lungs, stomach, and heart, making it impossible to eat solid food.

Higgs, a former accountant, now relies on dialysis every two days and hopes to join the kidney transplant list next year. He is regaining strength and plans to participate in a triathlon in 2022 using a recumbent electric bike.

Before surgery, Higgs shared with BerkshireLive how painful the disease was and how he managed daily morphine doses. Despite the challenges, he advises others to stay positive and adapt their lifestyles to cope.
