Danielle Davis was startled awake by her 16-year-old son Rayce Ogdahl’s screams on the morning of April 20, 2024.

She recalled, “I heard him shout ‘mom’ and my son was standing in the hallway.” She rushed to her son’s side to see he had burn marks around his neck.

“He said: ‘I’ve been electrocuted,’” she recalled the terrifying moment.

Danielle shared how her son told her he was in bed and ‘rolled over’ to get more comfortable when he heard something fall on his bed. His phone had been charging so that his alarm for school would ring in the morning.

But when Rayce rolled over, his metal necklace came in contact with the exposed prongs of the charger plug in the extension cord.

The contact caused a surge of power to pass through the necklace, which scorched the teenager’s neck.

The mom added the horrible accident that happened, “Because everything was metal, it made a complete circuit around his neck.”

Rayce was reportedly ‘completely conscious throughout the whole thing and aware he was being electrocuted.’ He felt pain as the voltage surged through his body.

“He said this all happened within a matter of seconds and he visibly saw sparks coming from his neck,” the mom shared. “He told me his whole body hurt and he thought he was going to die.”

After she heard the screams and saw the damage, she immediately rushed her child to Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma.

After doctors checked him, they informed that Rayce had suffered from second, third, and fourth-degree burns. They also told them that he had been shocked with enough amps of voltage to have killed him.

He had scars covering almost his ‘entire neck’ that started from his chin to his collarbone. You can see the pattern of the necklace on his skin because of the accident.

She noted that the accident has made her son ‘a lot more self-aware’

The mother resolved, “We’re just so grateful he’s OK. He could’ve easily died that night. It was amazing he was still conscious and could still alert us. It would’ve been a different story.”

She is now issuing a warning to others, saying, “When it comes to your phone, there’s not a text message or notification that is important enough to have your phone on your bed. Anything can happen and Rayce is proof of that.

“Pay attention to your cords and I would recommend to anybody don’t use extension cords at all,” she said.

All in all, we are glad Rayce is doing better. Share this with others so they can also make sure to follow this advice and protect themselves as well.
