Maren Morris Says Beyoncé Is “Reclaiming Country Music To Black People”.

Maren Morris is showing support for Beyoncé as she prepares to release her country album, Cowboy Carter. Morris shared her own experience of not feeling welcomed in the industry, commenting, “Drag them, Queen,” in support of Beyoncé’s recent statement about her struggles.

Morris has been outspoken about racism, sexism, and homophobia in country music. She famously clashed with Brittany Aldean over transphobic comments in 2022, and in late 2023, she released two songs, “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here,” hinting at her departure from country music. However, she clarified she’ll always feel connected to the genre but wants to move away from its harmful aspects.

Morris’ struggles in country music date back to the 2016 CMA Awards, where she performed with the Chicks. The performance received mixed reactions, and Natalie Maines revealed she faced racist comments afterward. In 2023, artist manager Tanner Davenport recalled hearing racist remarks directed at Beyoncé during the performance. Beyoncé has already released two tracks from Cowboy Carter, including her hit “Texas Hold ‘Em,” with more surprises expected.
