Dad celebrates teen who took his autistic son to prom

A heartwarming story shared by Mike Larson on Facebook highlights the kindness of a high school senior, Maddi, who invited his autistic son, Jon, to prom.

Jon, a junior, had autism, and Maddi, who knew him through a school club that promotes friendships between special-needs and regular students, wanted to ensure he had the chance to attend prom. She even went the extra mile to learn Jon’s favorite color and food, planning a special night for him.

Mike Larson posted about the experience to show support for children like Jon, promote friendships, and remind others of the kindness that still exists in the world. The post went viral, reaching over a million shares by 2019. Mike shared that Jon is happy and well, and Maddi, now married, sometimes feels embarrassed by all the attention but didn’t see her actions as extraordinary.

Mike reflected that he never imagined Jon would attend prom due to his autism, but thanks to Maddi, it became one of the most beautiful memories for their family.
