What does it mean when a person who has passed away appears in your dream?

Losing a loved one is a deeply personal experience, and many people cope with grief in different ways. One common occurrence is dreaming of deceased loved ones, known as “visitation dreams.” These dreams often feature the deceased appearing alive, healthy, and at peace. According to Patrick McNamara, a professor at Boston University, visitation dreams may help people cope with loss and sorrow.

Studies have shown that dreams of the deceased can be meaningful and aid in healing. For instance, a 2014 study found that such dreams can provide comfort and a sense of connection with the deceased. Another study in 2016 revealed that 70% of people who had visitation dreams believed they were connected to an afterlife.

Psychologist Jennifer E. Shorter identified four key traits of visitation dreams: the deceased appears healthy or younger, they often provide reassurance, the message is more telepathic than physical, and the dream is calm and harmonious.

Have you ever dreamed of a loved one who passed away? These dreams can be comforting and may offer healing during the grieving process.

Look at my smile! I came here today holding this sign because my biggest wish is to make new friends. Sometimes people look at me differently, but I’m just a child full of light, curiosity, and lots of love to give. My glasses help me see the world, but it’s with my heart that I truly see people. I imagined the day my baby arrived would be filled with voices, hugs, and messages 🍼✨. Instead, the room is quiet — and the silence feels heavier than the blanket resting beside me. I look into these tiny eyes and remind myself to be strong, because now I have to be 🤍. Still, somewhere deep inside, I wished to feel remembered. Just one “congratulations.” One warm word. One small sign that I’m not invisible 🌿. Tonight, I’m holding my baby close, hoping tomorrow feels a little less lonely.
