Why Hillary rejected Bill Clinton’s proposal twice

Bill Clinton became famous when he was sworn in as US President in 1993, but his time in office was overshadowed by his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Despite this, he has remained married to Hillary Clinton for 49 years.

They met while studying at Yale University, and although Hillary turned down Bill’s marriage proposals twice, she eventually said yes in 1975. They had their first child, Chelsea, in 1980. Bill’s presidency was marred by the Lewinsky scandal, but Hillary chose to stay with him, calling it one of the toughest decisions of her life.

Over the years, they both pursued their political careers, with Bill becoming the Governor of Arkansas and President, while Hillary became a U.S. Senator and Secretary of State. In 2024, they celebrated their 49th anniversary, a testament to their enduring love.
