Alarming Health Alert: Experts Say New Virus Is Nationwide — America Must Prepare Immediately

The H5N1 bird flu outbreak in the U.S. is spreading rapidly, with nearly 1,000 dairy cow herds affected and over 70 human cases reported, including one death. The virus has impacted the poultry industry, causing the loss of millions of birds since 2022 and driving up egg prices. Experts warn that mutations could lead to human-to-human transmission, making the situation more dangerous.

The Global Virus Network (GVN) urges governments to improve surveillance and biosecurity measures to prevent further spread. They also suggest that vaccination efforts could help control the crisis, especially as the virus has spread to mammals.

There are concerns about inadequate testing and response, with only cattle crossing state lines required to undergo mandatory testing. The virus has also been detected in over 400 wild animals and in wastewater across several states. The U.S. has a stockpile of 20 million bird flu vaccines, with the capacity to produce more if needed.

Experts emphasize the need for increased monitoring and preparation for a potential pandemic, as the virus continues to evolve and spread.
