Brave little girl wheeled down the aisle by dad to marry school sweetheart days before passing away

When Alina and Aaron Edwards learned that their 9-year-old daughter Emma had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, their world changed forever. Despite months of treatment, doctors eventually told them there was nothing more they could do. With heavy hearts, her parents focused on making Emma’s final wishes come true.

Unlike many children who might wish for Disneyland or to meet a celebrity, Emma’s dream was to marry her childhood sweetheart, DJ, also just 10 years old. The two had been close since third grade and even tried to “marry” in school once before.

With the support of friends, family, and volunteers who called themselves “Emma’s Army,” and help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Emma’s dream came true. On June 29, 2023, Emma wore a purple dress and was wheeled down the aisle by her parents to marry DJ in a beautiful, love-filled ceremony.

Just weeks later, on July 11, Emma passed away, surrounded by loved ones. Her obituary called her a “light to all who loved her” and praised her strength, humor, and love for life.

Rest in peace, sweet Emma. Your story touched the hearts of many.
