Virginia Father Sentenced to 30 Years for Beating Infant Daughter to Death Over Xbox Headset

Virginia Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Infant Daughter Over Gaming Rage

La’Shaun Quintae Holloway, 27, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the brutal killing of his two-month-old daughter in Virginia Beach. The incident occurred on December 19, 2020, when Holloway, enraged over an Xbox headset, was heard yelling at the infant moments before she fell silent.

Family members found the baby unresponsive; she died days later from extensive injuries, including 26 rib fractures, a fractured skull, and severe brain trauma.

Convicted of second-degree murder and child abuse in August 2024,

Holloway received a 50-year sentence with 20 years suspended. Judge Afshin Farashahi exceeded Virginia’s sentencing guidelines due to the infant’s age and the brutality of the attack. Holloway had a prior criminal record, including child abuse and DUI offenses.

The case highlights growing concerns over gaming-related rage. A 2022 survey found that one in four gamers admitted to destroying equipment in anger, with many reporting negative emotional effects from gaming.

Opera GX, a web browser for gamers, responded by releasing a parody “Anger Controller” to raise awareness about emotional regulation in gaming. Holloway’s case serves as a tragic reminder of how unchecked rage can lead to irreversible consequences.
