Trump Declares Users of “Artificial Intelligence” the “Enemy” as He Pushes New Term

President Donald Trump has declared that people who continue using the term “Artificial Intelligence” instead of his preferred phrase, “Super Intelligence,” are considered “THE ENEMY” by the White House.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump wrote: “The White House considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

The statement marks a forceful escalation in Trump’s effort to replace the familiar term “Artificial Intelligence,” commonly abbreviated as AI, with “Super Intelligence,” or SI, in federal government communications.

Trump Wants Federal Agencies to Adopt “Super Intelligence”

The post follows an executive order that, according to the administration’s announcement, directs federal agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence” in official communications, documents and policy materials.

Trump has argued that the phrase “artificial intelligence” makes the technology sound fake, while “super intelligence” better conveys its capabilities.

However, the terms are not generally interchangeable in technical usage. Artificial intelligence is the established umbrella term for computer systems performing tasks associated with human intelligence. Superintelligence typically refers to a hypothetical or advanced form of intelligence that exceeds human capabilities across a broad range of areas.

Changing the terminology in government documents would not, by itself, change how AI systems function or establish that existing systems possess superhuman intelligence.

What the Statement Means for Government and Technology

Trump’s post raises questions about how the administration intends to implement the terminology change and whether it will apply consistently across federal agencies.

The president’s use of the phrase “THE ENEMY” was directed at people who continue using the older terminology, but the post did not specify penalties, enforcement measures or other consequences for individuals or organizations that continue referring to the technology as artificial intelligence.

The statement also does not establish that private companies, researchers, journalists or members of the public are legally required to adopt the new phrase.

For technology companies and researchers, “artificial intelligence” remains the standard term used to describe a broad range of systems, from tools that generate text and images to software used in forecasting, robotics and data analysis.

A Debate Over More Than Words

The dispute highlights a broader question about the language used to describe rapidly developing technology. Supporters of the terminology change may argue that government language should better communicate the technology’s potential. Critics may question whether replacing an established technical term with a more expansive phrase risks confusing the public about what current systems can actually do.

For now, Trump’s post makes his preferred terminology clear, but its practical effects will depend on the scope and implementation of the administration’s directive.

The key distinction is that the president has announced a preferred term for federal communications; his statement alone does not make “Super Intelligence” the universal technical name for AI or require everyone outside the federal government to use it.
