A man has won hearts online after giving up his first-class seat to an 88-year-old woman he had never met, allowing her to fulfil a lifelong dream of travelling at the front of an aircraft.

The heartwarming gesture was shared by a flight attendant who recounted how the man, identified as Jack, swapped seats with Violet during a flight from New York.

According to the flight attendant, Jack and his family had purchased seats in the airline’s Upper Class cabin for their journey home from New York.

However, after boarding the aircraft, Jack went to find Violet, who was seated in economy, and offered to exchange seats with her.

The flight attendant explained that Jack subsequently took a seat next to the economy-class toilets and remained there quietly for the rest of the flight.

He did not make a fuss or seek attention for his actions, choosing instead to give up his comfortable seat simply to make another person’s dream come true.

“Of the hundreds of flights I’ve operated, I’ve had the pleasure of looking after footballers, supermodels and some Hollywood movie stars, but let me tell you about my two favourite passengers EVER!” the flight attendant wrote in a Facebook post in December 2019.

“Jack and Violet,” the attendant added, expressing admiration for the unexpected act of kindness.

88-year-old woman fulfils lifelong dream

The flight attendant revealed that Violet, 88, had worked as a nurse in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

She regularly travelled to New York to visit her daughter but had been unable to make the journey for some time because of a knee replacement.

Despite her years of travelling, Violet had always dreamed of sitting at the front of an aircraft, a wish Jack helped her fulfil through his selfless gesture.

The flight attendant described the elderly woman’s excitement when she was settled into her seat in the premium cabin.

“You should have seen her face when I tucked her in her bed after supper,” the attendant recalled.

Violet was so delighted by the experience that she wanted to take a selfie to show her daughter, knowing she might struggle to believe that her mother had travelled in the luxurious cabin.

However, the elderly woman did not have a phone or an email address, prompting the flight attendant to arrange for the photographs to be sent to her by post.

“She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it, but didn’t have a phone or an email address. These photos are getting sent in the post tomorrow, can you even cope?” the flight attendant wrote.
