My Family Left Grandma Alone at a Restaurant to Ditch the Check—Too Bad They Messed with the Wrong Granddaughter

Grandma just wanted a quiet birthday dinner, but the family had other plans. They hijacked the evening, booking an expensive steakhouse, and then schemed to leave me with the bill. Overhearing them, I realized they planned to have me pay, assuming I’d be the one to cover their $800 tab.

When the check arrived, they all made excuses to avoid paying, expecting me to cover it. Instead of arguing, I left, telling them I’d take care of something. When I returned, the family had ditched Grandma, leaving her alone at the table. I reassured her, and we finished dessert on the house, thanks to the restaurant manager, Eric, who I knew from college.

The next day, the family started calling, furious about the restaurant demanding payment. I had only paid for Grandma and me, while Eric made sure the others would pay up, with interest. The family quickly regretted their actions.

Next year, Grandma and I are celebrating her birthday alone, and I’m keeping my phone on silent. Moral? Mess with me, but not my grandma.
