Elon Musk shocked the CPAC audience by waving a ‘chainsaw for bureaucracy’ on stage, sparking debate and reactions across social media.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, made headlines with his recent appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C.
This unusual event took place on February 20, 2025, and it left many people talking.
A new role in politics
President Trump appointed Musk as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE, shifting his focus to politics.
This new role has put him in the spotlight, and he seems to be enjoying the attention.
At CPAC, the audience cheered excitedly as they welcomed him on stage.
Musk’s innovative ideas and bold statements are well-known, but this appearance stood out.
He wore sunglasses and his signature “Make America Great Again” hat, which is often associated with Trump supporters.
This outfit choice was a clear sign that he was embracing his new political persona.
Elon Musk stuns CPAC crowd by brandishing ‘chainsaw for bureaucracy’ on stage
During his speech, something unexpected happened.
Musk received a red chainsaw from Argentina’s President Javier Milei.
The chainsaw was engraved with the phrase “Viva la libertad, carajo,” which translates to “Long live liberty, damn it.”
Musk then raised the chainsaw above his head and declared, “This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy.”
The chainsaw symbolized cutting through government red tape and inefficiencies.
Musk claimed that he had made significant cuts to government spending in the past month, saving around $55 billion.
He suggested that these savings could ultimately benefit taxpayers.
The impact of government cuts
According to the DOGE website, the savings were achieved through various methods, including detecting and eliminating fraud, canceling contracts, renegotiating leases, and reducing the workforce.
Musk claimed these measures could return up to $5,000 to taxpayers.
President Trump praised these savings as “incredible” and mentioned that a portion would be returned to the public while another part would help pay off national debt.
The U.S. currently has a staggering national debt of over $36 trillion, a figure that has grown significantly over the past century.
Criticism of the previous administration
Musk also took the opportunity to criticize the previous Biden administration.
He specifically pointed out an app used by nearly one million people to enter the U.S. on two-year work permits.
Musk claimed this was a tactic to gain support in swing states, calling it a “real scam at scale” to influence American democracy.
“A lot of people don’t quite appreciate that this was an actual real scam at scale to tilt the scales of democracy in America,” Musk claimed.
This comment reflects Musk’s growing involvement in political discussions and his willingness to speak out on controversial issues.
His statements have sparked debates and discussions among supporters and opponents alike.
Reactions from the audience to Elon Musk
The crowd at CPAC responded enthusiastically to Musk’s speech.
Many attendees were excited to see him advocate for government efficiency and financial responsibility.
His use of the chainsaw prop added a dramatic flair to his message, making it memorable.
Social media also lit up with reactions to Musk’s appearance.
Supporters praised his boldness and creativity, while critics questioned the seriousness of his message.
The chainsaw became a symbol of his approach to government and bureaucracy, showcasing his unconventional style.
